Cannonball Run

Cannonball Run

When my friend Matt Olsen of Carl’s Cycle first called to ask if I would be interested in photographing a sixteen-day crosscountry ride of pre-1916 motorcycles, I don’t think I took him very seriously. Are there really people crazy enough to take these valuable antiques out from private collections and museums and off of their display stands to get them running good enough to attempt such a feat? To ride from Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on the Atlantic seaboard to Santa Monica, California on the Pacific may have bordered on insanity! Matt made it sound more unbelievable when he explained he would build a single cylinder 9-HP, single speed, 1914 Sears from scratch hand-fabricating most of the bike and that he would be starting this trek from Kitty Hawk as well.

Matt is a very believing sort of guy and while the odds were stacked against him and the ride as a whole, I so wanted his information to be true that I signed myself up for this so called “Motorcycle Cannonball” back in December 2009. Bike & Tattoo Show

Bike & Tattoo Show

From its humble beginnings which took place back in 1999 at a small hockey arena in a suburb of Montreal called Lachenaie, Pros Production’s Bike and Tattoo Show has grown to be one of Canada’s top custom motorcycle and body art events.

With over one hundred and twenty five hand-crafted bikes on display that either make their very first public appearance or have been champions on the world stage, in Canada and the United States, this event has become a bike builder mandatory instalment. In addition there are over one hundred first-rate tattooists on hand who endlessly ramp up their machines to satisfy anyone who is looking to add unique lifelong alterations to their bodies. Whether you’re looking for a custom two-wheeler or some new ink you are sure to find an artist that will make your dreams become reality. Attended by open-minded people and those who are curiously attracted to the rebellious aspect of this much talked about event the Bike and Tattoo Show is a must see. Held in April it kicks off the official summer riding season!

L.A. Calendar Show

L.A. Calendar Show

Give me a good reason…Yeah that’s right, a good reason to go to California! Well actually I don’t really need one but for the purpose of this report mine was to cover the L. A. Calendar Show, an annual event in Los Angeles, next to the historic Queen “E”. Think about it: the bright hot sun, pretty women and awesome custom bikes, certainly an exciting recipe! This is not the biggest show on earth but it sure is a warm and cozy one. Once you enter the site you feel right at home. The L. A. Calendar Show is an event that marks the introduction of the Fast Dates Calendar sponsored by Mikuni Carburetors. Born twenty one years ago this event brings together top world racers and pure custom bikes. Hum, good ideas seem to stick around!
